Work with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture through the Ontario-Quebec Grain Farmers Coalition for AgriFlex to be implemented under Business Risk Management

Grain Trade & Market Development
Immediate Priorities
 
1
Clarify forward delivery contracts as per legal obligation of both corn producers and of the end user purchasers
 
2
Provide accurate information on emerging public issues facing Ontario's corn industry, such as food vs. fuel, HFCS, etc.

Work co-operatively with government and industry partners to ensure new opportunities bring value to Ontario corn farmers
On-going Priorities

Monitor and support options for new corn varieties and agronomic corn marketing options such as Refuge

Monitor emerging world markets and international trade negotiation as it affects Ontario corn producers

Monitor market traceability and food safety

Produce a regular supply and disposition report and release information on a predetermined and timely basis

Work with industry and government partners to ensure processing of Ontario specialty or trait specific corn

Maintain competition among a growing number of independent buyers of grain corn in Ontario

Investigate enhanced marketing strategies relating to corn based products



Environment, Technology & Research

Short Term (12 months)
1. Participate in and support public awareness efforts that build confidence in and promote positive perceptions of Ontario's corn producers and corn production.
2. Review, approve and monitor research proposals of primary interest to OCPA members and promote innovative approaches to public sector funding for corn related research.
3. Ensure the interests of corn producers are enhanced under proposed environmental stewardship regulations, legislation and policy (ie. source water protection, nutrient management, etc.). This includes promoting positive public perception of the agri-food sector, specifically as it relates to Ontario corn producers.
4. Enhance the usefulness and value of corn performance testing.

Medium Term (1 - 3 years)
1. In partnership with appropriate affiliations, we monitor, assess and provide direction to governments on proposed regulations, legislation and policy concerning:
i. Source water protection
ii. Research priorities and funding issues
iii. Global harmonization of regulations
iv. Access to new technologies
v. Climate change
2. Support research projects with strategic impacts on corn production in the following areas; agronomic, biodiversity of the corn plant, market development and business environment.

Long Term
1. Enhance the business environment and profitability for increased corn production in Ontario with the lowest environmental footprint possible through investment in research
